March 26th, 2008 · No Comments

As You Wish

will host our first annual
(but second ever)

Bluebonnet Portrait Day
Sunday, April 13th

Sessions are 50% off making them just $100 for a 1-hour session! This is an excellent opportunity to update family portraits. College Students: take advantage of having the family in town for Parents’ Weekend.

Though the price is 50% off, you still get 100% service!

  • You still get a full 1-hour session.
  • You still get online image hosting and sales.
  • And, when you spend just $300, you’ll get a CD/DVD-ROM with all the hi-resolution images and a license for personal use.

You can fill your facebook profiles and flickr accounts with images and share them with your family and friends all over the web!

Most people react with “oh I don’t have anything to wear”. Not true! Neutral colors are the best attire for bluebonnet portraits: denim, white, khaki, black, etc. Avoid red/maroon for the best look You can read more about what to wear (and what not to wear) on our site:
http://www.asyouwishbcs.com/?s=attire

We have to say goodbye….

March 11th, 2008 · No Comments

In 2005, shooting the wedding of our niece just three days after her father’s sudden passing was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I was able to rely and lean upon the support of colleagues, friends, and even family (who were clearly going through the same thing as me) to get me through that week. (Angela, I’ve never been able to truly repay you for holding me together on that day. I love you, friend.)

Granted on a smaller on scale—yet more directly related to our immediate family—today is a sad day for the remaining founder of As You Wish. We had to say goodbye to a member of our family. Within one hour of showing any real symptoms, Mitad, our middle kitty, was diagnosed with an uncomfortable disease. She had less than 24 hours to live with what turned out to be lympohoma. While she was not in acutal pain, she was not comfortable. As it turns out, she’d been hiding it for months. During her last few moments this morning, she not only let me hold her, she also snuggled and cuddled in ways she never had before. And, when she had had too much, she rested her head on my arm and took a brief nap…something she’d not done since she was a young kitten.

At only 7 years of age, she went well before her time. She was a fabulous inspiration to us all. Her spunk and strength will live in our hearts forever.

Mitad went gently into that good night

As Mitad was one of our “kids”, I’m taking a couple of days off from As You Wish to recover from the loss. I know that those of you with pets will understand. I know, too, that those of you without pets will respect my need for a little time.

hug your critters while they are just As You Wish,

Website and Magazine!!!

March 10th, 2008 · No Comments

A while back, we were asked to allow a local wedding venue to use our photos of a wedding/reception for their “Featured Wedding” for the 2008 version of their website. We were thrilled and honored.

Today, I got a late and hurried phone call from the venue’s owner. She needs the images first thing in the morning because they also want to submit them to a magazine for their profession! wow!!! *blush*

I suffered several technical difficulties this evening (wouldn’t you know it) because the search feature wasn’t working on my computer. (what on Earth???). I was afraid that the images were misplaced. Through some recent projects, like the clients’ album, I knew the images couldn’t have gone far, but I couldn’t find them, either. Panic began to set in. I called my first backup storage facility; no luck[1]. I called our album designer; she had a few. I called my photography partner, Dennis; he had them all. yay!

Then just as we resorted to plan “b”, my wonderful husband found them on my computer. (again, what on Earth???). So, the wonderful Dennis is burning the images (he’d already started) and delivering them to the venue in the morning. I wrote the commercial licence (hope I got THAT right) and sent it to them by email.

So, crisis averted….and images on their way and on time! whew!

[1] Because of our online image hosting, all is never lost. We always have yet another copy of the images But that server/service is in California, so we couldn’t get them on such a short deadline.

Wedding Day “package”

March 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Occasionally, customers ask about wedding packages. Since you can buy any combination of print sizes from my online sales gallery, I have avoided pre-defined packages.

Here is an example of the services and prints you might select for a bridal session, and a wedding ceremony and reception.

Typical wedding/reception “package”

  • bridal session, 2 hours: $400
  • photography, 6 hours: $1,200
  • prints and other products: $800
This purchase is the minimum requirement needed to obtain the CD/DVD-ROM of hi-res images and license to print them for personal use.
  • album set for couple (11×11) , her parents, and his parents (2 5×5s), $1,600
  • TOTAL: $4,000

Of course, we are willing to meet any budget. Here is a more economical example.

  • engagement session, 1 hour: $200
  • photography, 6 hours: $1,200
  • prints and products: $400
  • TOTAL: $1,800
