A while back, we were asked to allow a local wedding venue to use our photos of a wedding/reception for their “Featured Wedding” for the 2008 version of their website. We were thrilled and honored.
Today, I got a late and hurried phone call from the venue’s owner. She needs the images first thing in the morning because they also want to submit them to a magazine for their profession! wow!!! *blush*
I suffered several technical difficulties this evening (wouldn’t you know it) because the search feature wasn’t working on my computer. (what on Earth???). I was afraid that the images were misplaced. Through some recent projects, like the clients’ album, I knew the images couldn’t have gone far, but I couldn’t find them, either. Panic began to set in. I called my first backup storage facility; no luck[1]. I called our album designer; she had a few. I called my photography partner, Dennis; he had them all. yay!
Then just as we resorted to plan “b”, my wonderful husband found them on my computer. (again, what on Earth???). So, the wonderful Dennis is burning the images (he’d already started) and delivering them to the venue in the morning. I wrote the commercial licence (hope I got THAT right) and sent it to them by email.
So, crisis averted….and images on their way and on time! whew!
[1] Because of our online image hosting, all is never lost. We always have yet another copy of the images But that server/service is in California, so we couldn’t get them on such a short deadline.

Fellow photographer, Aaron Johnson, writes the daily online comic strip, “What The Duck?”
Today’s strip is quite relevant to where I am right now.

Thank you all for your patience during my busy seasons. I’m grateful that I never want to refer to my clients as “crazy”.

Like most photographers, I study the works of others. From this, I can learn from their mistakes, gain ideas and inspiration, and keep my work fresh and innovative. One photography team I like the work of is Jamie Weiss. Their most recent wedding has some amazing shots.
wow!

13. What is the best time of day to take photographs for a winter wedding?
No matter what time of year your wedding is going to take place, it’s always a good idea to be aware of the movements of the sun and the direction of its light. This is especially important when planning a winter wedding, as the days will be at their shortest and the light at its weakest. Consult www.sunrisesunset.com to find the information you need for any location in the world. If you plan on doing some of your wedding photographs outdoors or are even having an outdoor ceremony, allow at least 60 to 90 minutes prior to sunset for photographs, as the light will fade quite rapidly after sunset.”
